Loss runs summarize reported claims and are commonly used during commercial trucking insurance review. Requesting them early can prevent renewal delays.

What to request

  • Currently valued loss runs for every relevant policy period
  • All lines requested by the prospective carrier
  • Three to five years when available
  • A report dated recently enough for the underwriting request

How to request them

  1. Contact the current or prior agent or carrier’s loss-run department.
  2. Provide the legal insured name, policy numbers and policy periods.
  3. Specify the delivery email and requested deadline.
  4. Ask whether an authorization form or officer signature is required.
  5. Review the reports for missing years or claims that need updated status.

If information looks wrong

Do not alter the report. Ask the issuing carrier to correct an insured name, policy period, claim status or valuation. Keep written confirmation of the request and follow up before the renewal deadline.

Are loss runs always required?

Requirements vary by carrier and program. Some opportunities may use other underwriting information, but only the reviewing carrier can determine what it will accept. Start early even if you believe an alternative may apply.
